To be eligible for a student visa New Zealand, you must:

  1. To be accepted for a course at an education institute approved by the Ministry of Education or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)
  2. Money for your tuition fees or proof that you have a scholarship that pays your fees
  3. Proof you have enough money to live on while you’re in NZ, and a ticket out of NZ or evidence that you have enough money to buy one.

  2. Completed Student Visa Application Form (INZ 1012)
  3. Application fee payment receipt
  4. An offer of a place – You need to have an offer of a place from a New Zealand institute/university. The forms are usually issued after the tuition fees have been received
  5. Letter from your current institution confirming your status as a study abroad student
  6. Health insurance receipt
  7. You may be required to show Health and Character certificates, to prove that your intention of staying in New Zealand is genuine
  8. Two passport-sized photographs

Do International Students in New Zealand Need Health Insurance?

All international students are required to have medical and travel insurance to qualify for a New Zealand international student visa.

Part-Time Work Permissions on New Zealand

  1. A student visa allows you to work 20 hours per week during your academic year if you have reached your minimum age of 18.
  2. A student visa allows you to work full time during holidays or summer breaks only if you are 18.
  3. You must have permission to work during your academic year from your parents, legal guardian or education provider.
  4. Masters by research and PhD students have no limits on the hours of work per week.
  5. In case working part-time is included in your course, you have to get permission from Immigration of New Zealand beforehand. This will then be added to your visa conditions.
